Looking back at your preliminary task (the college magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Looking back at my preliminary task and comparing it to my finished product I can see I have learnt a lot from doing both tasks. One thing I learnt is a white background is alot more effective at making the writing stand out. It also helps bring to focus more onto the image of the model on the front as their is less to distract the audience. I also learnt to use rulers to keep everything in line and with the same amount of space between each piece of text. This helped a lot whilst doing my feature article as their was loads of text that needed to be in line and also follow certain curves at the same time. This was something i didn't use on my college magazine but could have improved it if I had. The magic wand tool was another thing I leant how to use and improved on since doing my college magazine. This has helped give my finished product a much more professional look and has also helped with the placement of things around the page.
Another technique I have learnt is different camera angles and shots and what works best with what. For example, on my front cover the model is looking straight into the camera and it is slightly above her head. This helps intise the audience into wanting to look at the magazine and find out more about it. I have also learnt that a full body shot works best on a contents page. During my research, most of the magazines I looked at that were similar to my magazine had a full body shot on the contents page. I found this is a nice way to still keep the main feature or motif of the magazine in the readers minds but at the same time giving them the opportunity to read what else they would be seeing in the magazine. One of the main techniques I learnt from the two tasks was the spacing of the images and text. In my college magazine for the preliminary task I left quite alot of blank spaces. I tried not to do this in my music magazine. Instead I found ways to fill the gaps either by just simply using larger text, rearranging images or adding little bits of detail that would help attract that audience at the same time.
